The main purpose of this website is to explore the peronalities of, and the relationship between, the Roman Emperor Hadrian and Antinous, the 'boy from Bithynia'. Other people, both on the Web and in numerous publications, have given historical or fictional accounts of this sometimes notorious liaison. My edition of the story is given in a series of poems.
This website is ongoing will be added to in the course of time.
As well as poems concerned with Antinous and Hadrian, I plan to add other poems which will have a connection with aspects of life in classical times as well as poems dealing with philosophical matters arising from meditations on these subjects.
After his death Antinous was worshipped as a god-hero throughout the Roman Empire. In our own times this worship continues in a transmuted form reflecting our modern preoccupations. I give below a Link to the Ecclesia Antinoi, the modern Church of Antinous.
The different poems are available by clicking on the numbered list to the left.
